Kenya Safari Tours

Planning a safari from scratch means juggling parks, distances, vehicles, and lodges you've never heard of. We do that part. Tell us how many days you have and what you want to see, and we'll build the trip. vehicle, driver-guide, and route included.

The Safari Company That Plans Around Your Trip

Search Kenya safari tours and you'll find hundreds of near-identical packages. same three days, same two parks, same fixed price whether it fits your dates or not. Mijay Travels works the other way around. You tell us your timeframe, your budget, and what matters most to you (big cats, fewer crowds, a specific park you've read about) and we shape the itinerary from there.

Every safari includes a 4x4 built for game drives, a driver-guide who knows the parks (not just the roads), and a route planned so you spend less time traveling and more time watching wildlife.

FAQs

How much does a Kenya safari cost?

Cost depends on the park(s), trip length, accommodation level, and whether you're traveling privately or in a group. As a rough guide, shorter 2-3 day trips to Amboseli or the Mara with comfortable lodge accommodation tend to be more affordable than longer, multi-park itineraries with premium camps. Send us your dates and preferences and we'll quote a specific price.

How many days should I spend on safari?

For a first safari, 2-3 days is usually enough to see a lot without feeling rushed. One full day of game drives, at minimum, per park you visit. If you're combining multiple parks (for example, Amboseli and the Mara), 4-5 days gives you time to actually settle into each rather than just passing through.

When is the best time to go on safari in Kenya?

Kenya has wildlife year-round, but the dry seasons (roughly June to October, and January to February) tend to offer easier game viewing since animals cluster around water sources. If seeing the wildebeest migration is a priority, the Maasai Mara river crossings typically happen between July and October. Tell us your travel dates and we'll advise on what you're likely to see.

Which park should I choose (Maasai Mara, Amboseli, or Tsavo)?

Choose your safari around your dates and interests. The Maasai Mara is known for wildlife and the seasonal migration. Amboseli offers elephant sightings and views of Kilimanjaro. Tsavo has extensive landscapes to explore.

What's included in the safari price, and what isn't?

Included: vehicle, driver-guide, fuel, and park entry fees for the itinerary agreed. Typically not included: personal travel insurance, drinks and items of a personal nature at lodges, and tips for your driver-guide. We'll confirm exactly what's covered in your specific quote before you book, so there's nothing unclear on arrival.

Do I need to book accommodation separately, or is it arranged for me?

We can arrange accommodation as part of your safari. Tell us your budget and preferred lodge or camp style. We’ll confirm the options and inclusions in your quote.

Is it safe to go on safari, and what vehicle will I be traveling in?

You'll travel in a 4x4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof, driven by an experienced driver-guide who's familiar with the parks and park regulations. Game drives follow park rules on distance from wildlife, and your guide will brief you on safety before each drive.

Can you plan a safari for a large group or a special occasion, like a family reunion or honeymoon?

Group safaris and private itineraries for special occasions are both things we plan regularly. Let us know the occasion when you enquire and we can tailor the pace and stops accordingly (for example, more relaxed mornings for a honeymoon, or larger vehicles for a family group).

How far in advance should I book a safari?

For peak season (particularly July-October for the migration), booking several weeks to a couple of months ahead is safer, since good camps and lodges fill up. For quieter periods, we can often confirm a trip with much shorter notice. Ask us about your specific dates.

What should I pack for a Kenya safari?

Neutral-colored clothing, a light jacket for early morning game drives (it's cooler than you'd expect), sun protection, and binoculars or a camera with zoom if you have one. We'll send a fuller packing guide once your safari is confirmed.

Maasai Mara Safari

What to expect in the Maasai Mara

If you've searched Maasai Mara safari packages, you've probably noticed it's the reserve every safari list starts with. and for good reason. Few places on earth pack this much wildlife into one landscape: lions, elephants, cheetahs, and (July through October) the wildebeest migration crossing the Mara River in front of you.

We plan Maasai Mara safaris from Nairobi with a 4x4 vehicle, an experienced driver-guide, and a route built around how many days you actually have. not a fixed template that ignores your dates.

What You're Actually Coming to See

  • Big Five sightings. lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino, all present in the reserve
  • The wildebeest migration (July–October). river crossings that draw visitors from across the world
  • Open grassland game viewing. fewer obstructions than forested parks, meaning more visible wildlife per drive
  • A wide range of camps and lodges. from comfortable mid-range stays to premium tented camps inside the reserve

How many days do you need?

Trip Length Options

  • 2-Day Mara Safari. A tight but complete introduction: travel out, two or three game drives, travel back. Best if time is limited.
  • 3-Day Mara Safari. The most popular length with a full day of uninterrupted game viewing without feeling rushed by travel time.
  • 4+ Day Mara Safari. More game drives, more flexibility to chase specific sightings (like a river crossing), and time to explore different areas of the reserve.

FAQs

How many days do I need for a Maasai Mara safari?

Two days is workable if time is tight, but three days is the most common choice. it allows a full day of game drives without the trip feeling like mostly travel. If seeing a river crossing during migration season is a priority, four or more days gives you a better chance, since crossings aren't guaranteed on any single day.

When is the best time to see the wildebeest migration in the Mara?

The migration typically moves through the Mara from around July to October, with river crossings most likely between August and September. though exact timing shifts slightly year to year based on rainfall. If the migration is your main reason for visiting, tell us your travel window and we'll advise honestly on your chances rather than overpromising a guaranteed sighting.

How far is the Maasai Mara from Nairobi, and how do we get there?

By road, it's roughly 5-6 hours from Nairobi depending on conditions, which we typically build into a full travel day at the start and end of your trip. If you'd rather save the travel time, we can arrange a domestic flight into the Mara instead. let us know if you'd prefer to fly.

How much does a Maasai Mara safari cost?

Cost depends on trip length, accommodation level, and whether you're traveling privately or in a small group. a 3-day private safari with a mid-range lodge will cost less than a longer trip with a premium tented camp. Send us your dates and preferred style and we'll quote a specific price.

What animals will I actually see in the Mara?

The Mara has resident populations of lion, elephant, buffalo, and (with more luck) leopard and rhino, alongside large numbers of zebra, giraffe, and antelope species year-round. Cheetah and hyena sightings are also common. Outside of migration season, you won't see wildebeest crossings, but the resident wildlife remains active throughout the year.

Should I choose Maasai Mara or another park like Amboseli or Tsavo?

The Mara generally offers the densest wildlife concentration and the migration in season, while Amboseli is known for close-up elephant sightings against Mount Kilimanjaro and is a shorter drive from Nairobi, and Tsavo is larger with fewer other vehicles around.

Is the Maasai Mara safe for families with children?

Families do visit the Mara regularly, though some camps set minimum age policies for game drives or certain activities. let us know if you're traveling with young children and we'll recommend camps and an itinerary suited to your family.

What's the difference between staying inside the reserve versus outside it?

Camps inside the Mara reserve typically mean shorter drives to game viewing areas and the possibility of wildlife passing near camp, usually at a higher price point. Camps just outside the reserve tend to be more affordable, with a slightly longer drive to reach the best game-viewing areas. We can recommend either depending on your budget and priorities.

Can I combine a Maasai Mara safari with another park in one trip?

Combining the Mara with Amboseli, Lake Nakuru, or another park is common for trips of 4 days or longer. Tell us your total available time and we'll suggest a realistic combination rather than trying to cram in more than the days allow.

How far in advance should I book a Maasai Mara safari?

During migration season (roughly July–October), booking a couple of months ahead is safer since the best camps fill up quickly. Outside peak season, we can often confirm a trip with shorter notice. ask us about availability for your specific dates.
